My primary source is from a publication called "El Chingazo" which was published in 1977 by the Chicano Park Steering committee. This source shows very clearly the influence of the Chicano Movement (ideas of self-determination, Aztlan, "la tierra mia," etc.) in the establishment of the park.

Realistic Source List
- The Folklore of the Freeway - Eric Avila
- This book tells the story of how communities use spaces, particularly under or around freeways, to reclaim areas that would typically be seen as destroyed by freeways. Has a chapter dedicated to Chicano Park
- Chicanos in a Changing Society - Al CamarilloThis book tells the story of the Chicano Experience in Southern California, so it is good context for Chicano Park Takeover.Chicano San Diego - Richard Griswald del CastilloThis is a book that specifically looks at Chicanos in San Diego, and has a particular section on Chicano Park.Art and Social Movements: Cultural Politics in Aztlan - Edward McCaughanThis book describes the way that art has been used for social movements, and how that has played out in the Chicano Movement.Articles from the Union Tribute and the Triton TImes (already collected)Local reporting on the Chicano Park Takeover. There was actually pretty limited coverage from what I can gather.Source Wish List
- Brown Berets, San Diego papers or notes
- Members of the Brown Berets in San Diego were some of the first people to take over the park
- Footage from the takeover
- I would love to see what the takeover actually looked like, and what kind of references, chants, and protests were used to give me a better look at the motivations of the community
- Opinions/letters to the editor from greater San Diego community
- How was Chicano Park perceived by other communities in San Diego?
- Marco Solis papers or interview
- This is the student activist who first notified the community that the park was to be turned into a highway patrol station, and he was the one to initiate the takeover
